The British School at Athens is pleased to announce a new three year (0.5 FTE) Post-Doctoral Fellowship: Hassapoyannes-Blandford Post-Doctoral Fellowship in North Kynouria Studies.
Thanks to generous support from Katharine Hassapoyannes and David Blandford the BSA is now inviting applications for the inaugural Hassapoyannes-Blandford Post-Doctoral Fellow in North Kynouria Studies.
The Hassapoyannes-Blandford Post-Doctoral Fellow in North Kynouria Studies will focus on a combined programme of desk-based research and on-site survey to reconstruct patterns of cult practice, sacred space, and landscape use across more than a millennium of regional development to bring to light the rich diversity of religious traditions from the Geometric to Byzantine periods. With a focus on the diachronic range, the Fellow might cover the following themes while being free to develop their own scholarly foci within the broad remit:
1. North Kynouria: Borderlands
2. Bridging Gaps in the Archaeological Record
3. Mapping Spatial and Environmental Relationships
4. Tracing the Transition from Polytheism to Christianity
The Hassapoyannes-Blandford Post-Doctoral Fellow in North Kynouria Studies will present the following during the period of their research:
1. Research Papers in Athens
2. Community focused papers/exhibition in North Kynouria
3. Final publication (including an interactive map of the religious sites of North Kynouria)
4. An annual report
The Fellowship is tenable for three years (0.5 FTE) from 1 February 2026 or as near as possible to that date.
The annual gross salary will be €28,000 pro rata, plus health insurance and an annual research allowance up to €2,000.
The BSA will provide membership and mentoring.
